What is it, why do I need it and what is the Law?
Fixed Wire Testing or Periodic Inspection & Testing involves the inspection and testing of the electrical systems that conduct electricity around a building. It may be likened to an MOT.

It is a known fact that under the ‘Health & Safety at Work Act’ and ‘Electricity At Work Regulations’ that landlord’s, business owners, public premises, employers and/or self employed are obliged to verify the safety of their electrical installation.

The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 places a duty upon employers, owners of businesses and public premises to secure ' the health, safety and welfare of persons at work' and also any other persons connected with ' the activities ofpersons at work'.

Basically, every installation - other than those in privately owned and occupied by their owners – have to be inspected & tested to highlight any deviations from requirement that will impair the safety of the installation, this includes testing any Portable Appliances. Having said that, we will still highly advise home owners to have the inspection carried out.
